where to get the right u-joints.

Because I got u-joints that I thought were right, but were not, I lost the driveshaft in my mach 1 out on a desert road. That sucker spun out hard on a corner I was taking and spit it out the side while I shifted my 4spd at about 5k rpm. It was pulling pretty good still and I was having a blast for a few seconds. Luckily I didn't get flipped over or some other horrible happening. I still have my rear u-joint and my yoke sticking out of the rear of the tranny. Does anyone know what the correct u-joint part number from Checkers, Autozone, Napa, or Carquest would be? I want to make sure this doesn't happen again. I'll also be getting a driveshaft safety loop now even though I am not running more than 225HP in my 302. I couldn't even find my driveshaft after this happened.

Thake your yoke off, and take your pinion receiver off and get a new driveshaft and have them measured at the parts store for EXACT FIT!

It'll save you lots of heartache.

I went back and found the driveshaft. It only scratched the paint on the shaft. The u-joint bodies are both ok. The caps failed on one which led to the other one also failing. I'll Check it out closer tonight after I get two new u-joints. If it vibrates then I'll have to get a new one.
