I removed the unilite and installed my MSD dizz, now working on the 6AL wiring.
The Unilite had a 3 wire hookup, red, green and brown. Brown was ground, red and green to coil.
As far as key switch goes the only wire hooked up from the engine harness is a red with green stripe, currently hooked up to the -terminal of coil.
I did all the wiring for the 6AL, the last hookup is the 12V ignition. In the engines wiring harness there was a red w/white stripe cut off. I tested the wire and got a switched 12v. I hooked into this for my 12V source. I left the key on for a couple mins and smelled smoke. Killed the key and disconnected that wire. I DID NOT remove that wire in the harness that is red/green hooked to the -term of coil. Should I have? The MSD schematics only show the MSD box hooked to the coil. Looking at my Fairlane schematics the red/white wire should go to the "TEMP GAUGE(ENG. UNIT)".
The unused white wire on the MSD box is where the origional coil - wire would go if it was being used(off the origional condenser).
The red/green is the wire I need to hook up to the 6AL, I THINK. It should have been on the coil+ not coil-. Could the car have ran with it on the wrong side of the coil???? It did.

Using the 2nd schematic from the top. I can email the Fairlane wiring PDF if anyone needs it(to help or for their own use).
Thanks,
Cord
