Some 302 Cam swap ?\'s

My buddy is installing a E-303 in a 88 302 and it is a H.O. engine. We are trying to find out if wether the stock valve springs for a 88 H.O. are spec'ed for this E-303 cam.

4th of July is coming upon us fast and we do not want to have any fireworks early if ya know what I mean.

Another question we have is, Will a stock timing set get him by or would a double roller go far beyond a stock set?

This is basicly a stock 88 302 H.O with a dual plane intake and (soon) long tubes. It will have a AOD behind it too. She has 4.11 gear

Thanks Y'all

Get the springs that go with the cam

I built a 5.0 and ran the crane springs that they use for a cam they sell that matches the E303 it's a dual spring.

I would replace the timing set while you are in there

I just talked to the guy that owns it and he said it made 325 @ the flywheel and it spins to 7000

That’s what he said

Some 302 Cam swap ?\'s

Thanks. I kept on telling him that a cam swap does include swapping out the springs too, But in some cases it is not always the case. We could not find any info stating stating if it was needed, That was the need for this post.

Also, Does that cam need a stock spec timing set or is a double recommended?

I don't think it matters on the chain. I'd go double

I always put double roller sets in every motor I build.

For the cam swap in addition to the valve springs you need to get the valve spring installed heighth and the pushrod length specs as well and see if they vary from stock. Even if the cam will use the stock springs if they are used I would put new springs in. I lean on the Summit Racing techs for all this kind of stuff.
