Interesting link - seems to be saying run 5/8" tank to pump, 1/2" pump to pressure regulator, and 3/8" regulator to carb . . .

So I followed advice and decided to upgrade the fuel line for my 393 stroker from 5/16 to 3/8. Problem is that McMaster-Carr lists two candidates...

http://www.mcmaster.com page 108 lists Alloy 3003-O as being flare-able aluminum tubing useable for gas fuel lines. One 3/8 candidate has an I.D. of .305 with a wall of .035 and a max PSI of 1008 while the second has an I.D. of .277, a .049 thick wall and a max PSI rating of 1459. Which to use?

Its my first fuel line upgrade so I'm thinking the thinner tubing will have more capacity and be easier to bend/flare. Plus I'm using a low pressure electric pump with a carb, either my holley blue or hopefully a Mallory 110.

Any opinions/advice?

I would go with the first one the one with a .305 ID as it is the closest to 3/8 line. The second .277 is smaller than 5/16. You can also order 3/8 line from PAW part# PAW-AFL3/8 Its only 16.95 for 25ft. then you can use tube nuts and sleeves with -6 JIC/AN fittings, This is the rout I am taking with my 67. The fittings are far cheeper than fittings for rubber hose unless you just use barb and hose clamps but that looks just weak. If you dont mind steel fittings they are much cheeper than the anodized aluminum, Since here at my work we deal with hydraulics on a daily basis I was able to obtain the nuts and sleeves for free, had the gold zink striped and replated with clear zink. Thats my .02 of the deal. Hope you find what your looking for

Oh and just incase someone doesnt know JIC are the same as AN fittings. They both share the same flair angle

When you start looking for fittings, Cisco on Dixie road has a great selection.

I used Moroso aluminum 1/2" (OSD), 3/8 (ISD) from the tank to the fender.

90 degree 8AN bulkhead, and then 1/2" braided steel from the bulkhead to the Carter mechanical pump.

A late model Vette filter screws directlty to the Carter mechanical pump and then more braided with 8AN from the filter to the fuel log.

The AN fittings are expensive, but very easy to work with: no leaks, no little rubber bits making it's way to your needle and seat.

Cisco has the lower cost steel (JIT) same as AN style fittings

my 2 pennies

Just be sure with aluminum line that you support it with a lot of mounts. Vibration is killer to aluminum line. I run #8, which is basically 3/8 ID - no problems with a 140GPH pump. And it's not a restriction. IF I had a do-over, I'd run aluminum tube. Braided is fine, after the bleeding wallet and fingers. But you can smell the fuel though it. Stinks up the garage something awful.

The braided line I use has a rubber core, I thought they were
all like that, and that the outer sheath was just for protection???

IIRC, some are teflon lined. I used Earls.
