World Class T-5 ??

What is a fair price for one? My boss has one torn apart in the back room at work and I want to put in my Mustang.
It does need some work (the countershaft bearing surface needs to be resurfaced $35~$40) and some parts, but its mostly all there.
How much should I offer him to be fair?

I paid $150 for a complete working unit with bell housing at a swap meet a few years ago. I'd be leery of taking a collection of parts for more than that.

You'll be into it pretty quick for some cash to rebuild it properly. The small parts kit which consists of new bearings, blocker rings, etc costs $250. The Ford kit does not include the rear seal or tailshaft bushing. You'll need to verify it already has a steel tube front support or upgrade for about $50. Check the reverse gear closely for wear on the inside diameter teeth as they engage the 1st-2nd synchros and get worn on bad shifts. Check the shift forks for bends or cracks. They are aluminum and will get bent if the guy didn't have a shifter with stops.

Lastly - why was it taken apart?

Many people confuse the World Class as only being a T5z or Heavy Duty Motorsport T5. All of the 5.0 t5 transmissions from 85 and up are World Class. I would offer him $150 max.

$35 is what I gave for the one I got...and $35 worth of scrap is what I ended up with. By the time I counted up all the parts that needed replacement, I was already at $800 in parts alone. Wasn't worth that to me...especially not on a lowly 2.3 4 cylinder.

Got one from a scrap metal yard for $8.75, tag says it came from a '91 LX 4 cylinder. Seems to work pretty good.
