HI
I'm getting fed up with the rust in my tank pluging my line in the tank... not just my filter now...
I had the tank sealed a couple of yrs ago and now its rusting again and the shop isn't interested in redoing it for free. His reaction was OH hmm.. that was all I got out of him... and maybe its in the lines and I told him my filter is 3" from the where the line comes out of the tank. He also won't sell me the stuff to seal it up again..
What I want to know is can or will rust stick to a magnet?? I'd like to eather drop a magnet into my tank or stick one on the outside of the tank to hold the rust to keep it out of my line.. untill I have the time to remove the tank and redo it myself...
Thanks
tim

Well Iron is the magnetic part of metal... and rust is Iron Oxide... so I would think rust would be somewhat magnetic, but I don't have a good chunk of rust laying around to try it out right now

yep iron oxide (rust, cancer, whatever you call it) sticks to a magnet just fine. You can always do what I did.....drop a big magnet down in the tank and fogetaboutit.
Do yourself a favor and side step the "Red Neck Way" just this once and find a new replacement tank. That rust in the tank is a bitch and will make you lose your mind.

Pedal... The rust flakes large enough to "feel" will stick to the magnet..... The Powder will not! The Powder will clog your lines more than anything else....
Get some Urethane and do it yourself like I suggested last month... If you do it you will have piece of mind that it's done correctly!

Yea I'd like to, but I don't think they make them anymore. Its a behind the seat tank from a 72 F-100 of course I could use any behind the seat tank in my applcation but I don't think there are available..
I've thought about getting one of those plastic tank makers to maybe build me one.. What do you think about that??

I bet you could find a good one at a local wrecking yard!
I had one just b4 I left Nebraska.. I drove right through ID on 15 and 84 and I could have brought it to you!!!!... dang!
Dang yea 84 goes right by Boise.. I'll start looking at the yards but most of the ones I've seen befor don't have a cap on them.. I think they pull them off so they well dry the gas out of them. not sure it they would be rusty eather?? can you see in them good enouff to tell if they are rusty throu the filler hole or the gage hole??

I may have 1 or 4 of those in my shop. I dont use them in any but one truck, and the one it has is just fine. Im not sure what shipping would be like, but if I've got a good rust free one, its yours.
