9\" third member help

Are the bearing caps for the carrier in the ford 9" the same size in the 28 and 31 spline setups. The reason I ask is b/c I had a busted cap on a 31 spline setup. I took a bearing cap off a 28 spline setup that I had laying around and it will not fit and the bearing race is smaller just by a little on the 28 spline unit.

Generally the 31 spline carried the 3.0625 bearing caps. Ford at one time offered a bearing called SlimLine for use in the 2.893 units for the 31 spline carriers. You will need to find a cap for the 3.06 bearing.

Rear end bearing caps are aligned bored to each individual case. Like an engine's main bearing or rod bearing, they are not interchangable. If you have a broken rear end cap, your case is likely a throw away.
