First check to see if the starter is locked to the starting gear on the flywheel or flexplate. BTW what trans?

Yeah...what transmission?

If its the starter, test it by pulling it and using a break over bar to turn the crank by hand or push the car. If its still locked check the transmission.

If its an automatic, I'd wonder if you got the convertor fully seated. too often people will try to bolt the convert to the flexplate instead of seating the convertor in the transmission; then bolting the trans to the block and turning the convertor to match the bolt pattern, pull it forward and bolt it up.

The other possiblity, again on an auto, is the gear selector may be stuck in park.

Push come to shove... start over! pull the trans then check to see if the motor will turn over by hand. Then check the trans to see if you can spin the input shaft.

Morning loud8s
Befor you pull the tranny all the way out check that you didn't jam up the tq converter..
When you installed the tranny was there free space for the converter to move back and forth (front to back). There should have been free play there where you could spin the converter after the tranny was bolted up. If not theres you prob. the converter isn't all the way into the tranny pump.
Loosen the tranny bolts and slide the tranny back a little and push towards the back and spin the converter till it slides backwards some.
hope this helps and is it..
