head porting help

Have a FMS 351W crate/385hp. Vic jr, GT40X heads, Z303 cam [hyd .554 lift] and new Prosystems 780 road race carb. Car weighs 2350# wet. 5 speed WC tremec. IRS. 1 3/4 " individual headers into side pipes. Use for street and road race. Looking for more power like everyone else.

Alternative is to have heads ported and intake matched. Talked with CFM in Indiana and Bischoff Engine Service. Approach for both is street/strip port and same on intake, profile valves to improve low lift power and massage bowls. Cost around 800-900. New heads, AFR 185s, will be at least 1500 with proper springs, add in valve train, etc. Both shops claim they can at least match flow of AFR.

Since I am not looking for max hp and don't want to deal with extreme cost or things like piston relief, what would you recommend? Am I going down a bad path?
Thanks
Jack

I would go with having your current heads ported. THey are not bad heads (in fact im running the same ones) and if these places say they can match (and probibly exeed) the AFR flow for less money than new AFR heads why not go the less expensive route?
