is a aod worth keeping?

hi i had big plans on installing a 5speed in my 89 lx but alot of people sugest keeping the auto.sould i keep the aod or switch to a c4 .and how much would it cost to make the aod as fast as a 5speed.thanks for any info .

If you dont mind driving an auto, an AOD is great, although they do absorb a lot of power over a 5 speed. Personally I enjoy diriving a stick shift car much more, So I swapped my C4 for a 5 speed. Buying all new parts I spent about $2500 for parts to switch from a C4 to a T5 in my 67 mustang.

I would go with a c4 if its a race or street/strip car

Put your money into the AOD, it's already setup on the car and info on them has come along way. 5 spd requires clutch also. Both work, but you already have something installed, just make it better.

Baumann Engineering, good source for parts and technical info

A properly set up AOD, with some upgrades, can be built into a pretty stout unit.
