shock tower sag

My 67 Mustang fb has a few cracks in the shock towers that I need to weld before installing my new front suspension. Also, since I plan to drive this car in open track events, I will be welding in some shock tower support pieces. However, I would like to know just how much the shock towers have sagged over the years.

Are there any "garage methods" for measuring and realigning shock towers?

Does anyone know what the distance in-between the shock towers should be?
-what's the distance in-between shock tower caps?
-what's the distance in-between shock tower a-arm bolt holes?
-what's the distance in-between shock towers at the base?

Addtional info: everything is currently stripped from the car... no engine, no trans or rearend, no front suspension or steering linkage... so i won't be rolling the car to a frame alignment shop anytime soon.

Any advice would be helpful.

For a 65-66 it's 33-1/2" between the centers of the top shock mounts.... Unfortunately, I don't know the measurement for the 67.

Mine will sag, and I've got to use a port-a-power to spread them back apart. (headers fit much better with the shock towers in the right place)

A Monte Carlo brace (bar that fits between the shock towers and keeps them from sagging) is a GREAT addition. They also do a good job in keeping the shock towers in the right place during high load situations like cornering, etc. If you can't fit one, at least get one of the heavy duty export braces. These fit from the firewall to the top shock mounts. I have a heavy duty ONE PIECE unit that is WAY more rigid than stock pieces.

Combine the Monte Carlo Bar and a heavy duty Export Brace, and you're good to go. [img]/forums/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif[/img]

Mikes right... the monte carlo bar will quickly tell you how much it has sagged... it did for me.
I had to porta-power it back apart and install the brace.

oh yea that happened on my 69mach1, i always wonder why i had a bad vibration at certan speeds, my towers were pretty bad, had cobra jet shock towers installed yrs ago and that was that.

Garner67 PM me with your email. I have the factory frame diagram for '67 I can send you. It doesn't have the exact measurement you want but it has the UCA mounting holes to steering gear alignement measurements which may help since your motor is out currently. My '67 is in the same boat and I'll be wedging it apart to do my MC bar and export brace before the new springs go in! Stu
