c6 to aod swap

Hey guys it turns out I may be able to get and aod out of an 86 stang for my 351c in my torino. How much less hp would I lose to the rear wheels with an aod compared to the c6? Which tranny would be better for my street/ strip torino?

well the c6 takes at a minimum 50-60hp to turn, the aod would be friendlier for you on the street, but wont handle the hp without considerable work. If your use to a c6 you probably wont like a stock aod and its shifting quirks

Would I just be better off sticking with a c6 for the strip then?

If strip is only your real concern and not highway gas mileage, go with a C-4. Less HP to spin it and lighter weight. Lots of parts to make them stronger. 70-79 best years for them and they fit right up to your block.

strip is not my only concern. street is one of my concerns too. would I have to put alot of money into an aod for it to be street/strip capable?

yeah Man it is not that hard to getan AOD to handle good power or you can buy a lentech i have heard nothing but good things about them or you can go with your favorite 3 speed auto and put a gear vendors OD unit on the back problem is more weight and sucks up more HP i would think having more things to turn.

AODs have come a long way in the last 5 yrs. parts are cheaper, more people working on them and they have most of the bugs that made them weaker and HP sponges. Go AOD, you won't be sorry.
