Pilot point drill bits work just as well, are easier to find and are less expensive.

Don't waste your money. Unless you buy the $50 ones they are junk. I bought the ones that have replaceable bits and broke the first one on the second hole. They do come in 5/16", 3/8", and 1/2". Usually 3/8" will do it but I also found several that had been double shot. Like N2OMike said pilot drill bits are much the same and dont break near as easily. A 3/8" hole saw will also work but not as easy to find.

I like the blair spot weld cutter in 3/8". The trick to using them so you dont break the cutter is to drill a small pilot area or to use a punch to make a divot for the retractable point to rest in. The cutters break when they skip around.

I'm telling you, guys.... A 3/8" or 7/16" pilot point drill bit costs around $5, and will work just as well if not better. Give one a shot.
