What\'s a good head for a 393/408 windsor?

If I go with a 393/408 what is a good cylinder head?..I want to just be able to bolt it on and go and not have to worry about headers fitting or porting etc...I'm just looking for a strong street motor(450-500hp) that will see the occasional strip pass.

The afr 225's are an awesome head. But if you are looking to make 450-500 the vic jr's will be PLENTY. I have only 10-1 compression, with a small mild hyd roller, 1 5/8 headers, dual plane intake, and mine made 519hp. Headers bolt right up and they were only like $1300. I think these are a very good bang for the buck.

If you want to keep around 500 or so HP go with the 205's. I built a 414 with the 205's and a .600 lift cam, which is relativly small for those heads and made 535 at the flywheel. That's with a dual plane stealth intake and a 750 bigs carb. I could have easly pushed the 600hp mark with a bigger cam and single plane race intake.

Since you are building a street stroker, I'd say go with some AFR 205's or some of these http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/...t.phtml?p=1471

That being said, if (more like when) I build another windsor stroker, it will have some AFR 225's.

i think the 205s will work better with header fit.

I got 185s and should be at 500+ with a 392, RPM Air Gap and 750 SD.

The 185's will get the job done. Im not say the 205's wont make more, just saying the 185's are a great head for that combo.

Heres some articles on the 185's from the AFR site.

I"m saying if you want to keep that thing were it is a pleasure to drive on the street, I would go with the 205 or maybe even the 185's. My car is at its max as far as streetablity goes. I have a t5 with 389 gears. It doesn't come alive until abot 3000 rpm, and it's fun from there to 6800 rpm. But down low you can tell the car is running really inefficent. So make sure you plan well for what you going to be using the car for before you spend a bunch of money.

I like the vic jr for the "mild" combo(like 500 hp is mild). Great bang for the buck out of the box and major potential.
