Mavman and others. 351c starter question

I went and bought the 5.0 mini starter that you recommended and it sure does look nice, By the way, same one as a straight 6 '90's ford f-150... but when i got the starter home i counted the teeth and there is 10 of them on the new starter gear. the 351c origional starter has only 9 teeth on it. will this matter ? I have a 164 tooth flywheel if this helps, what do you have ?

It will work fine. I put one on my 68 Fastback with a 351c/C4.
The old starter struggled to start it when it was warm. The mini starter does a much better job.

Just a guess, but is it aiding in the gear reduction? Having a smaller drive gear will give it a better effective gear ratio. Its like a pedal bike, the smaller gear on the front makes it easier to pedal.

I have not had any issues at all. Just make sure its wired correctly or it will stay engaged for a second or two after the motor starts.

WOW! Less teeth means slower turning... only one tooth like 20 or 50 rpm but it's still something...

Wire it up like the factory Greg and you'll have NO problems...

We just did the same thing 2 weeks ago.

Take a 12 gauge wire and hook it up to the starter sid of the solenoid on your fender well, Then to the solenoid on the starter. Run it with the large starter wire to the starter and wrap in with some wire loom.

So much nicer now.
