I actually think the XE262H will pull higher torque numbers. Not that it matters, but will the XE262H have a lope?

BIGJOE, maybe you can chime in here, and put some input on this article.

http://www.iskycams.com/techtips.php

article 2003

This is a good article from isky about longer duration exhaust, which is now pulling me back to a single pattern being that the heads and header will flow plenty fo rthe exhaust and I wont have the need for a longer exhaust duration.

Dual pattern cams generally pull better at higher rpm than single pattern units. The smaller XE262 dual pattern cam will have tons of low end from it's smaller duration numbers, but the extra exhaust duration will allow it to rev out pretty well.

I think it's a great cam for your car.

Good Luck!

Even though the xe series of cams look like dual pattern from their 050 numbers, I know the actual cam designer, and as he explained it to me, the exhaust is accually (effectively) shorter t5han the intake, because the intake lobe is much more aggressive. I know the Isky people very well, I ran there stuff for years. They make a very good product. But when I did a back to back test of a 270 Mega hydraulic with a Comp xe 268 hydraulic, The Comp made 20 more peak HP at the same RPM. Enough said. JOE SHERMAN RACING

I'm running the XE268H, but with way bigger heads (Roush 200's,) and it makes a very flat torque curve. I've only dyno'd it once, but in a purely untuned, first-run state it put down 250RWHP with a 9" and a C4. I'm positive its up to 270 now.

Since you have better flowing (and smaller) cylinder heads, you'll get much better cylinder filling (down low especially) and get even more torque out of it than I am. I really think you can't go wrong with it.

That being said, im sticking to the comp's

Im going to order the cam and lifters today, im 90% on the XE262H, most likely the XE268H will be a little much and I will loose some hp? Or should I just get the 268H in preparation to put in a stall, and gears...I know its up to me and really its all about if you have money to do it, but I know I will be replacing the trans, with a higher stall, and the rear will taller gears, its just a matter of time.

Again thanks all for your help!

Your car will NEED a looser converter before you install the XE268. The XE262, along with the Performer RPM should be about perfect for your application. You'll also want to purchase Edelbrock's calibration kit that comes with the different jets and metering rods.

You should have a killer ride!

Good Luck!

cool thanks n20mike, will a torque converter rated at 2300-2500 suffice for the XE268H cam?

With your good heads, I don't think you'll need that larger camshaft. The 262 measures 218/224, the 268 measures 224/230 @ 0.050". The smaller one is plenty in your heavy, frequently driven car. The smaller cam will pull like a rocketship up to around 5500 rpm, providing plenty of torque to get that heavy car up to speed. I wouldn't want something much larger in a heavy car that is driven regularly. The smaller one will give far more 'punch' at the stoplight. The larger one will feel a little more lazy until around 2500 rpm or so... then won't pull above the smaller one until around 4500 rpm in a 302ci engine.

If you want to focus on 4500+ rpm, go with the larger cam. If you want to keep the 'punch' at the stoplight, use the smaller cam. As you know, most races are won or lost at the beginning. I'd use the smaller cam in your heavy car.

99% of the time when choosing a camshaft for a street car, it's best to go with the smaller one when stuck between two choices. Bigger isn't always better.

Good Luck!
