battery volts while charging???

How many volts should i read at the battery while the engine is running?

I had my wires messed up at the regulator, i tried a different regulator i had because i was only getting 12.5 volts while running, and got around 16 volts, i thought that was pretty high, so i tried the same wire setup on my other regulater, and got about 13.5 volts. I thought that was about right.

All readings were taken at the battery

charging voltage will be less than 15.72Vdc and more than your battery voltage before charge. Assuming a fully charged service battery (one that has been in use for a while) the charge voltage will be between 13.2 and 14.7 at 72 degrees ambient temperature.
If the voltage is higher than before you started charging and with the engine off and the battery wire to the alternator removed there is not enough current flow to light a 12 volt bulb then you are fine!
