352/4speed 2200# race weight

I recently aquired a '65 Ford 1-Ton truck with a 352/4-speed. I have been repairing the rotted panels and floor boards so I can get this truck on the road and then probably sell it. I have $0 invested in this truck and about 100hrs of my labor. I would like to keep the 352/4-speed for another project and in its place I have a 302/C4 that would fit nice in that truck. If it were feasable I think that 352 would look AWESOME and very nostalgic in my '27 Ford pickup. All I need is about 300HP at the crank to run 12 flat 1/4 mile. My question is what kind of 4-speed would have come in that '65 Ford 1-Ton? Would conservative speed shifting cause any damage to it? My last question is what would it take to pull out 300hp from that 352??

Why not use a toploader. You would be at a handicap trying to run "twelves" while trying to shift a truck four speed. 300 hp is easy for a 352. In 1960 Ford had the High Performance 352 that made 360 hp at 6000 rpm. You could get in the 400 hp range staying with the stock stroke and iron heads. Intake, cam, headers and compression ratio are the fundamentals. A stock stroke W motor with factory iron heads won't run with it.

That 352 could really run! I recall that in 1960, the high performance 352 in a full size Ford w/ a 4 speed was a pretty darn fast car.

Hum, 30 over and a easy to find 390 crank and you have a 386. Scrounge up a 410/428 crank and you have a 406. You can get period correct 406 fender badges

my brother used to have a '66 F100 that came with a 352 and a C6. It ran great. He swapped in a 351w (almost stock) with a C6 and it was a DOG compared to the original 352.

My galaxie originally had a 352 in front of the 4 speed. Even worn out that thing ran good. The 352 heads are a good start. With a rebuild and a mild cam, intake and exhaust you should have no problem with 300 streetable hp. I think the trans could go either way. I've seen 1/2 ton pickups with the car toploader. Sounds like a fun project.

Most likely it's a New Process NP435. Too long of a throw to efficiently shift fast. I would look for a toploader.

Truck trans is much different then a car's. Shifting fast will not be kind to it. Besides it's big and heavy. 352, unless you have some reason you have to have a 352, bore it .050" and use a 410/428 crank and you'll have a 410. You'll have all the power you want or need.

How heavy is the 352? Would a 352 bolt up to a C4? Does anyone know of any dynoed 352 recipes??

352 weighs as much as a similar 390. So you're talking about 650lbs or so. Performance Automatic sells a bellhousing for the FE to C4.
