Drop Dist in at 0* or at base timing on pointer.

Okay I understand the entire find TDC method, but do you guys drop your distributor in when the timing pointer is at 0* or do you drop it in around where you want your base timing at 12-14*?

I find TDC on the #1 cylinder and then rotate the crank 2 more times... this time stopping at 12° BTDC (or where ever you want to set it). Then I install the distributor so the leading edge of the rotor is pointing right at the #1 spark plug tower. This will get it started... then I set it more accurately with a timing light.

It makes no difference at all. If you drop it in at 5 or ten this will allow equal swing before it hits. Bottom line is as long as it moves enough to get your timing set thats all you need.

If you want a trouble free start the first time, Set the pointer (rotor) 1/4 of the way bewteen the #8 and the #1 on the cap. Starting from the #1 Position, and lock it down. That should put you at 22 degrees, enough to get your carb dialed in.
