Looks ok I guess.... $1600 for an engine minus heads...? I dunno...
I build my own so I wouldn't know what to pay for one.

Re: Is it a good deal?

Eagle forged crank and rods, probe forged pistons... That's a DAMN good price. I can't buy those parts and build that shortblock that cheap retail. As long as the assembly and machine work is done well, that would be a killer deal. Go for the 347.

Yep, cast crank and the lower quality forgings. 5140 forged steel isn't as good as 4340.

Re: Is it a good deal?

Give 'em a call and check warranty, delivery etc. Do you have heads, intake, carb, valve covers, balancer, flex plate etc?

If not and you buy new stuff you can add at least another 1500.00

The price seems decent for a short block though.

Re: Is it a good deal?

Yeah, your right. I mis-read that. Not as good a deal as I thought then.

Re: Is it a good deal?

Im just tryin to get an idea about good pricing and bad pricing. Thanks guys.

By the way could someone fill me in on the strenght and RPM limitations of the different rpm levels?

For example

Cast stock crank, rods, pistons 6000 max

Cast Cast Steel crank, stock rods, hyper pistons 7000 etc...

This would help me figure out How much beef I need. Thanks DC

Re: Is it a good deal?

I ran my 347 with a cast steel crank and forged 4340 rods, with Probe pistons to 7400rpm every day of its two year, 31k mile life (give or take, before I sold it).

For the money, I wouldn't run anything less in ANY motor I build nowadays...other than the stockest of stock rebuilds.
