Re: 4R70W help

Well the short of it could be that when a trans is over-filled the fluid gets churned up and can foam. Then the trans will loose line pressure and things can and will start to slip. To little. bad. To much. Bad.
Im no trans expert but id change out the fluid and refill with fresh since it sounds like it may have gotten 'foamed up'. I woulndnt know however if the fluid is ruined. Its just what id do.
Good luck.
Other thoughts anyone?

Re: 4R70W help

what year trans is this? from when they first came out untill 1998 ford had problems of the tranny losing the 1-2 shift i had this happen in 3 vehicles so far and its a well documented problem if caught before what you experienced you can get some parts to fix the problem but looks like you might be in trouble how many miles are on the tranny now?

Re: 4R70W help

The 95 f-150 I just bought from the company I work for (work truck) with 176k on it had to have a rebuild due to the 1-2 shift problem. Since then (well over 50k ago) no problems. Runs great.

Hope yours was just fluid related.

I had same problem with 75,000 miles on a 95 t-brid. Finally got rid of the car but I hear this is a problem with the 4r70w

Re: 4R70W help

do a search about the problem with the 12 shift on the 4r70w there is a fix i would suggest doing it before it becomes a problem save yourself a rebuild
