Blower vs. Stroker
I'm looking to get more power out of the 302 in my Gran Torino. Right now I'm looking at either getting a stroker kit or a blower. If I went stroker I'd take it to a 347, and if I went with a blower i'd go with a weiand 174 (unless someone knows of a better one). I'm currently in the "homework" stage of my build and I want to make sure that everything will be set once I start ordering parts. On a side note, underhood space may be a bit of an issue, right now the Torino has a standard hood but I plan on getting a GT hood in the future.

Re: Blower vs. Stroker
personally i wouldnt do either to be honest, a 302 in a gran torino is always gonna be kind of a turd to say the least, if you did go stroker it'd help but the money you spend on it you can put together a windsor for about the same price and still have lots of room to grow later. just my opinion

Re: Blower vs. Stroker
I agree a 302 is small for that heavey of a car... I'd spend the money on a 351 or a TADA 460 much more bange for the buck.

How 'bout a blown 408? That would be cool.

Re: Blower vs. Stroker
Dont waste your money on a weiand 174, im telling you go with a procharger.

Waste his money on a 174? What advantage would the procharger give him if he can only run ~8psi of boost reliably with the stock bottom end? You make a LOT more power at low RPM with the roots blower, and the 174 can push all the boost that his engine can really take anyways, right?

Re: Blower vs. Stroker
if you spin those weiands too fast the rotors will break, been there.

Re: Blower vs. Stroker
a roots blower has a very low adiabatic effieciency compared to a centrifugal or a screw type blower. you can make a centrifugal setup to produce peak boost wherever you want it......

Re: Blower vs. Stroker
I'll take my roots blower any day, first reason for the looks (wow factor). It may not make the peak boost of a centrifigul but I make max boost by 2k and hold even all the way to 7k. As for them not taking RPM I have had mine since 1989 on two different motors and have turned it 8k before. There is not even a blemish on the rotors. Maybe Holley has changed some stuff, mine is an original B&M but they look exactly the same. If it were me I would build a blown stroker.

Re: Blower vs. Stroker
If your hell bent on doing a supercharged motor, Procharger with an intercooler all the way !!! Its way more Efficient than a roots blower and will make a bunch more power. Plus it is all under the hood........
When you pop the 302, build a stroker 351 (393, 408, 427 Ect.) and bolt the procharger on again !! It would only take a little rework of a few brackets and some different pulleys to make it work.
It you want to stick N/A I'd do a 460 stroker cause their is no replacement for displacement. A N/A 347 is simple but will still be a slug compaired to even a stock displacement 460.
YOU NEED TORQUE TO MOVE THAT SLED !!!
