Re: best carb/intake for bone stock HO motor

An Autolite 4100 from Pony Carburetors on an old Edelbrock Performer intake. That's one of the best carbs ever made and the Performer is just a decent intake that's been around for years and will work great on a stock 5.0 HO motor.

Regarding the intake, I have asked on other boards and this seemed to be the one folks liked. Something about the runners being longer on them. Regarding the carb, I have heard of these guys before and heard they are pricey, but is this just a regular 4100 or is it modified by them in any way.

I just took the virtual tour and learned all about Pony Carbs. I'm impressed and it seems as though they would be able to get you dialed in correctly no matter what carb you go with. Will definitely be giving them a call.

Re: best carb/intake for bone stock HO motor

I'd run a stealth with a road demon 525 annular VS carb Or an action plus with a road demon 625 VS carb, demon carbs flow flow much more than their ratings usually about 75-100 cfm. I think the stealth with the 525 annular would give the most power as the stealth has the volume, the smaller carb with the annular venturi's will boost low end TQ big time yet it will flow enough, the action plus will give better vacuum signal and allow the 625 to give good response and flow close to 700 cfm.

The 4100's and 2100's used annular venturis and why they run so good BUT try to find jets, power valves to tune one, I would put 100.00 bet that a road demon 525 would make more power and run better than any 4100......another intake that would work great with the 525 carb and the stock hyd roller is the Xcellerator, it is a small runner single plane and I have seen in many cases it will out perform a dual plane intake from idle to top end with the right carb and the 525 AN VS would work excellent.

If your running an AOD you will want to fab or drill the lever so the linkage and TV cable (lokar is good) have the same amount of travel.

ok, thanks, but I am a little confused by your post. Can you offer more clarification on the carb you are speaking of. What type of carb is this.
