stuck valve???

Just picked up a 74 ltd with a 400m. The motor has 63000 miles on it and has not been driven since 1991. The car is going to be my work cruiser. So the problim is a miss at all rpms.

I rebuilt the carb 2150 and it run better still misses. The vacume guage fluctuates 17 to 20 at 750 rpm, with what seems like a weak cylinder. Replaced cap rotor wires and plugs, no change. When I stomp on this sled it runs fine, strong no miss. Whats next ? how do I check for a stuck valve? There is no noise from the lifters. What is making my vacume gauge goofey??

Re: stuck valve???

First you say it has a miss at all rpms.
Then you say you stomp on the gas, and there is no miss.
Sounds fine to me LOL!

Re: stuck valve???

Wet and dry compression check (or leak down check if you can). Have you narrowed it down to which cylinder is the problem?

Re: stuck valve???

If you got NO miss at WOT then you got NO stuck valve.... know what I mean?

Check the carb base plate for warpage and a vacuum leak.

Re: stuck valve???

Since it sat for 16 yrs check all the rubber vac lines for cracking and replace them if they are dry n brittle; brake booster, vac regulator, vac advance, PCV, HVAC control and so on.
