opinions on cam, intake, head. combo
would like some opinions on this combo. gt-40 heads, weiand stealth intake, e303 cam,
holley 600 carb, stock 85 5.0 short block with after market shorty headers. t-5 trans with 3.55 gears. Was wondering if this would be a good combo.

Re: opinions on cam, intake, head. combo
Personally I would ditch the cam in favor of something designed more for a carbureted setup.

Can't see much wrong with it. I'll be going that route with World products W senior heads. If and when I get the block back from the machine shop. Hunting season puts a hold on everything.
I don't know how the cam will work, I'm using it because I have one I used in a motor years ago. I found it up on a shelf one day while doing some re-arranging.

Looks like a good combo to me.
In my opinion the E303 cam is would be a good carburetor cam. It has a 110 degree lobe separation angle like many "carb cams". A typical oem 'EFI cam" would have 114-115 degree or greater lobe separation angle. A wide lobe separation angle is great for keeping the engine computer happy, but not so good for max power. So I think the E303 is good for a carb'ed motor.
Again, in my opinion, anything you spend improving the cylinder heads will be well worth it. That could mean getting your GT40's ported or getting some really good aftermarket heads instead. It's really hard to overestimate the impact of the cylinder heads, even on a mild engine.

Re: opinions on cam, intake, head. combo
I suppose I should have phrased it as 'go with a more modern camshaft design'... Memory bank served me wrong on the LSA of the E-cam, but it still has relatively slow ramp rates compared to what else is available... If you have it, use it, if not, consider something else.

I hear ya. The E303 is not what you'd call state of the art. Not bad though. The spec's are 282/282 degrees advertised, 220/220 degrees @0.050", .498/.498" (I'm assuming with 1.6 rockers) , and 110 LSA.
Luvin' the Falcon by the way. I'd just about kill for a '64-'65 sedan. I like 'em better than the hardtops.

Re: opinions on cam, intake, head. combo
I have all these parts except the intake. Probably use the e303 cam just hoping to get in the 13's with this combo the car is 3200 pounds. Had a 79 capri with 302, edlerbrock perfomer intake, one of the smaller comp xtreme energy cams, holley 600, e7 heads, shorty headers, c4 trans with 2000 stall, 3.73 gears that was fun on the freeway, With that combo I run a whopping 14.5 @ 88mph.
thanks for the input

Thanks, it looks even better now with the Centerline Telstar wheels on it instead of the probe wheels, but now the paint is finally starting to show its age and low quality (maaco, previous owner) and chip off. Keep on dedicating too much time and money to drivetrain work instead of working on the body.
The combo you have laid out should be a pretty solid 13 second combo. Just make sure you put some money towards drag oriented tires and suspension.

Re: opinions on cam, intake, head. combo
good combo for the street on a low buget. I have the E-303 in a 92 roller eng. off a mustang in my maverick and it sounds nice at idle with hooker headers, 2.5 inch pipes, flowmasters 40, RPM intake,E7 heads, holley 600,a 8" 2.79 peg leg and complete dura-spark ignition. It's decent on gas, and does't requierer high octane gas the way it is tuned now and with gas prices going thru the roof, it fits the bill for now as a daily driver !!!!
