Motor is in!

I hope 3rd time is a charm. Original "Not mine" rebuilt motor had wrist pins rubbing the cylinder walls. Grand Canyon type grooves. 2nd motor "Jasper Engines short block had a lifter seized and was eaten by the cam. Now 3rd time, double checked everything, motor is in. 2 & 1/2 years, 1 divorce, move everything I own, try and keep my sanity. I hope first start is just around the corner. New Years would be nice!! You all have a good Christmas, I have work to do. Greetings from chilly Germany, SHU

Re: Motor is in!

FE and friends. People just do not understand what is up with old cars. I was telling friends that I got the motor in tonight, I was very proud that it is finally in after so many set backs. This has been a long and on going battle. The first thing out of their mouths was "Does it run?" No clue of what is involved between "motor in" and "start ready". I have 100 things to do before "Start" The general public should not be allowed to make judgements unless they fully understand what is involved. Sorry if I sound a little bitchy. SHU

Re: Motor is in!

SHU, I know exactly what you mean. I've been working on my Ranchero (and a bunch of other stuff) for the last several years. I took out a 6 cyl, 3 speed and put in a 'scratch built' 408 with a toploader. Had to collect every part. The only thing I used from the original drivetrain is the 4 bolts that hold the fan on.

I still haven't started it, but I have friends that will ask every week or so if I have that old car running yet. When I say no, they ask "Well why not?". I don't even bother trying to explain.

This is true about every thing in life, not only for are cars, so dont take their ignorance personally, they just dont understand...

I know it is not easy to restore a car, and I sure know it is 10 times harder to restor American car out of America, but I promise you, one ride around the block, you will forget every thing, so keep your head up and dont give up, and if you feel you are about to "sound a little bitchy" go work on your car...

Sometimes, I think it's best to leave "em hanging.
The less they know, the less they'll ask!

Mother-in-law and some others "you still working on that car, what are you doing to it now, thought it was finished you were driving it."
Yea, I think we all feel your pain.
