60 Gallon Air Compressor suggestions

I am going to buy an Air Compressor for my home garage-light duty mainly to rum a blast cabinet. The specs seem to satisy my Blast cabinets recommended cfms.
Stopped at Home depot and Lowes, they sell Husky and Cambel Hausefields. Cast Iron Oil type, 240 volt 15amp (not an electrician)They looked identical chinese made I believe. Anyone using these?
I am looking to not break the bank but would like a decent one that's not absurdly loud. and last me a couple of years.
I was gonna buy a KOBALT, but lwes no longer carries them here. Are most of these the same mfr'r?
Thanks for suggestions

Re: 60 Gallon Air Compressor suggestions

Check out Northern Tool, Harbor Freight and Granger all on line. You can do some comparison shopping and figure out which one you need.

Most home based units are single stage the commercial units are 2 stage have higher cfm rates and can handle continuous use of an air tool without running like crazy.

Always buy the best you can afford so you do not outgrow your tools.

Do not forget to look at the second hand units you may find a deal

Re: 60 Gallon Air Compressor suggestions

I have yet to buy a Huskey tool that was not junk. I will not buy any more. The Cambel Hausefields used to be USA. I used one for over 15 years and sold it to buy a used Cambel Hausefield that was bigger. The compressor design looked identical but my new one was only a few years old. The larger tanks are nice! If you plan on keeping it awhile I would also say don't only buy it only on price.

Re: 60 Gallon Air Compressor suggestions

I bought this one at Lowe's about 4 years ago . Does all I need it to and never have to wait on it and thats even when I use my sand blaster . Think about what you will be using it for and what CFM the tools require. Will you be spray painting a car or truck ? If so make sure it is up to the task. I have seen several people buy what they think is a big enough compressor to later find out it is not . Below is a pic of the one I have .

Re: 60 Gallon Air Compressor suggestions

My 60 gallon 3 cylinder 18CFM at 100PSI came from a company in Canada called Princess Auto. I got it on sale for $650.00. The brand name was Eagle Compressor and it is Made in the US. It has enough oomph to run my bead blaster continuously.

Re: 60 Gallon Air Compressor suggestions

I have used many over the years building houses running air guns . The only one I have that can keep up is from sears . It is 160 psi , the professional black one . The red one is 150 psi and can only run 3 guns max . The black 60 gal tank and added psi will run 4 all the time and is very quiet . I got it on sale for 650 as well .

Kobalt is sold at tractor supply here , never had one so donot know . If you want a shop one find a ol timey 2 cylinder thumper that delivers more cfm with a 250 tank .

Re: 60 Gallon Air Compressor suggestions

Don't get the el cheapo at Sears. I got the direct drive and while it does work, it is loud as he11. I do not think it would keep up with a blaster. It barely keeps up with a sander. Does not appear to be well made and has a tiny regulator that prevents any real work from being done. I got what I paid for. Wish I would have saved my money and bought the one I wanted. Likely will, eventually. Might have to give this one away to get rid of it.

Re: 60 Gallon Air Compressor suggestions

I saw this thread and went shopping as I need a new compressor myself. Found an Ingersoll RAND 3HP 60 GAL for like $500. Read the reviews everyone loved it. Looked at Sears, per the reviews all of them broke within a year.

Re: 60 Gallon Air Compressor suggestions

my 80gal IR is the best thing/tool I have ever bought for my garage. do some research on the web and you find alot out about hp ratings and so called "2-stage" unit that are not actually 2-stage. I paid $1000.00 for mine but I looked at many l-cheapo's for $750-$850. Check Tractor supply if you have one in your area.
