I think the reason why people pick the MSD, is because they have the name recognition and years of proven reliability to set the standard. I dont know about facts, but I think when you look at the # of cars that have an MSD ignition box vs. any other brand, the facts dont lie. Watch Pinks on TV. I watch Pinks like 3 nights a week, and I have to say I have never seen any other ignition box, Except an MSD under the hood of the cars hosted on the show.
A lot of spark energy can sometimes be bad; specifically in power adders such as Superchargers, turbos and nitrous. So your Crane box may be good for an all motor car, but cause severe ignition problems on a car with a power adder. Let us know how that Crane box treats you.
Not to have an argument here, but reliability, and having a name that is synonymous with performance has an upper hand.

I agree that MSD is a great brand, but if was to run another one, it would be the Digital7, but i don't need the extra features it has for the extra dollars.

I beleive the crane offers the same performance as a 7, for alot less dollars without extra features i don't need. I would rather the digital crane over the 6AL analouge type since it is the same price.

Re: MSD Rev Limiter

Some of you talk about the harsh limiter and the shutter. I have had MSD boxes in the past and just bought a new one with a soft touch limiter. I have not had the chance to experience mine yet. I wonder if the guys talking about the limiters that are smooth are the soft touches MSD is incorporating into their boxes?

Re: MSD Rev Limiter

I'm not sure what it's called but the 6AL I purchased last October supposedly kills every other cylinder when at the rev limit. This stops rpm increase without dumping a bunch of fuel into the exhaust causing backfires.

I have mine set at 6k for the street and it is very smooth.

Re: MSD Rev Limiter

I run an accell 300+ ignition. I decieded to buy all accell stuff because they were slightly cheaper than the MSD stuff and it was all built in the USA. The rev limiter is adjustable in it so you dont have to buy any pills, you just turn them with a screw driver. Its also pretty small and easy to mount, plus its not a big red thing. Im not saying MSD is bad but I like the accell stuff. I also run a msd distributor stuff on our chevy truck and it works well.
