Rotating assembly hp & torque limit
Hi guys,
Technical information on my rotating assembly says that hp limits are:
- Crank: 500hp
- Rods: 525hp
On a dyno simulation, my combo should produce +- 360hp and if I put some extra-power (blower or paxton) wich will produce around 550hp will break the rotating assembly for the 50hp more than his limit?
In any case, more than 500hp will be fatal immediatly for my crank or the real limit is set a little bit higher?
What about the torque?
Thanks and hope you understand what I mean...

Re: Rotating assembly hp & torque limit
There are some crappy china cranks out there, so buyer beware...
A forged crank assembly should be stronger then what you have listed.
If your talking a 302 Block, blocks have been known to split in half over 500 HP. The 351W is a lot stronger. Good for over 700 HP.
If you have a 302 and plan on making that 550 HP, you should purchase an aftermarket 302 block.
Desk Top simulators are great for trying different things to see what the effects are, but are not real good for figuring what power you will be making.

Re: Rotating assembly hp & torque limit
I hate those ratings. It all depends on load, reciprocating and rotating weight, cylinder pressures etc. Its nearly useless
I would say that the stock block is your limit, and if the parts are decent aftermarket, and balanced properly, they should handle what you throw at it

+1
And...keep the tune SAFE. Particularly with forced induction. Remember...sometimes giving up 10-20hp (or more) in advance or fuel in the tune will save your block and rotating assembly (even im a stock block 8.2 deck app). Also, this will allow you to make MORE hp SAFELY...ESPECIALLY at the 500hp+ level.
Think that one through a few times and it'll make sense =).

Re: Rotating assembly hp & torque limit
The block is only good for about 550 anyway.

Re: Rotating assembly hp & torque limit
Quoting Joe from a stroker forum discussion, it depends on what kind of 302 block. I have a 1971 Mexican block 302 (Same as HI PO 289 block), which can take a bit more abuse than a standard 302 block, and can still be found pretty easily.
