cam advice please

hi all, i need some help picking a new solid roller cam for the 408. my comp street roller, 254-260 @ .050 .621-.627lift. shed itself of its gear teeth. im going to a stock pump and drilling the hole in the galley plug to help it from happening again. anyway, is there a different cam out there that is more forgiving on the valve train as far as longevity for the lifters, springs etc. if i dropped like 6 or 8 degrees duration and a little lift would i lose noticable power under 6000 rpm? how about a custom grind? any custom cam makers i should talk to? or i could just put the same stick back in it.

thank you all
