Gearing

I've been doing some thinking here. Yes, it does hurt. With my new supercharged 349 I have 4.10's. This is way low for my car. I was thinking of 3.70's until today. With all the power I have, would it be wise to go to a 3.50? Right now my first gear is useless and I'm wondering if the 3.70 would be much better. I know it all depends on what I want to do with the car. I cruise it on the weekends, not much highway driving. Mostly to car events and screwing off. I'm running 245's in the rear. I'm just thinking if I wanted to get serious, would I have a useful 1st gear with 3.70 and the power of my engine. Does anyone have 3.70's with 400+ hp? What do you think?

Re: Gearing

The 3.70 is a good gear for the street. You will be able to use your first gear and still have the rpm for good cruise RPM with 1:1 in the transmission. If you are running an OD tranny then you won't have much RPM when in top gear. That may cause problems with The RPM too low depending on auto or manual tranny.

Re: Gearing

I'm happy with my 3.55's. They are perfect for 1st gear IMHO. I have a 2.87 1st gear in my Tremec 3550 TKO w/.83 5th gear. You definitely got some power in that supercharged 349. The 3.55's are called sometimes the best of both worlds between performance/mileage. I bet with those 4.11's you are screaming in 1st gear and not covering much ground.

Re: Gearing

Screaming aint the word brother. I ordered a set of 3.55's a few days ago.

Re: Gearing

Good choice, I think you may find yourself happy with the 3.55's. Before you must of been screaming and making all kind of noise, just to cross an intersection. With 3:55's and my engine combo, I can get my front suspension to bounce up and down(when I tap the accelerator) on 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th gear at 1500-2000rpms.

Re: Gearing

Don't be surprised if you eventually go even higher than 3.55. You have a boat load of torque with that supercharger. The higher the gearing the more you can control wheel spin and actually go quicker with a SC because you can put more power to the ground. Plus it will give you better roll on acceleration above 60 mph and better gas mileage. I'd say 3.00 or 3.25
