Engine Dyno Results.

Well after 4 years of building ASR427's 302 went to the dyno. I was amazed that she fired right up on the third turn of the crank, no fiddling with timing or fuel straight up to 2,500 for half an hour.

A little more disappointed however after pulling a rocker cover to find water in the oil, at first we thought condensation but it got gradually worse during the day but didnt mix with the sump oil until the last pull.

Eitherway after jetting the carb right she made 331 BHP(UK) and around 324 lb/ft torque. Idled nicely at 950 rpm and was a smooth as you could hope for. Didnt live up to Edelbrocks claims though but depending upon difference between US and UK BHP maybe not so far off.

Without knowing it I managed to use one of the UKs best known machine shops and engine balancers during my build, both has paid off as Ive got a sweet little 302 for my Cobra rep.

Ill post a video a bit later.

Now Im off to pull the manifold to find that leak, oh and the sump dribbles as well so thats coming off too!

Cheers

Re: Engine Dyno Results.

Didnt live up to Edelbrocks claims though........that's a surprise

It seems you fell for Edelbrocks full RPM package. It's been brought up before and this just adds to the end result. For all who are still building there motors, go with Comp Cams(ie the Extreme Energy Grinds) if you want to see some serious and true power. Edelbrock heads are okay, but AFR's are far better. Edelbrock's cams lead a lot to be desired though as you can see from above. 4 years of building.......dang. What took you so long?? Glad you got it running anyway. Sounds like you got to find out why the issue of water showing up in your oil. Good luck.

Re: Engine Dyno Results.

Thanks for your comments, 4 years is a long time buts just how long it took me, I dont get much time in the garage what with work and home life etc. Im not disappointed in the performance, yes I could have gained more hp with a different cam but what Ive wound up with Im happy with. This motors going in a Cobra rep so Ive got over 331hp per ton to play with as the car is less than a ton! More than enough for me to get in serious trouble with!

On the leak front it looks like the head gaskets might be my cause so swapping out to Fel Pro's this week.

Cheers

Re: Engine Dyno Results.

I have dyno tested some of those Edelbrock packages, and none of them are even close to what they claim. I do use some Edelbrock heads, but the cams they sell are really bad. They are 35 year old designs and leave a whole lot to be gained. To even approach the Edelbrock numbers, you need way more compression and some serious hand porting( rework) to the as cast cylinder heads. Then, you can get close to their HP numbers.
