Roller cam, solid or Hyd.

I jsut have a general question about roller camshafts. The way a roller cam is ground (more oval, less egg shaped) why couldn't you run solid roller lifters on a hydraulic roller cam? I know you will loose some lift and duration in the process but shouldn't they be pretty much interchangable? Are solid rollers ground from harder material to keep them from being pounded by the extra lash? I just wanted to know.
Thanks

Re: Roller cam, solid or Hyd.

I read some stuff about this on another site and from what I gather you can do it but it has to be a billet steel hydro shaft due to the greater spring pressure you would have to run.

Re: Roller cam, solid or Hyd.

Usually the cam is ground from a harder material, typically billet steel on solid roller.
just do it right from the get go.
Sounds like a train wreck waiting to happen to me

Re: Roller cam, solid or Hyd.

The ramps on the two cams are designed differently since a solid roller runs with lash and a hydraulic roller runs with preload.
