F303 E303 w/ 165 AFRs
Shooting for low to mid-range power, till about 6100rpms. Its a 68 block bored 60 over, block checked good at that bore, I think it comes out to a 311 in my math is correct.
I know these are fairly old cams, but I have them in my garage. Would I see that much better power with a new Comp Cams cam or another OTS cam?
Intake will be a an air gap, if I go carb, or Corbra/GT-40 if I go EFI.
11:1 Comp ratio using 94 oct gas and 75 shot, car will weigh around 3100 with driver, and shorty heads.
Gears will be 3.93s, with IRS if that means anything. Trans is a T5 good for 500hp w/ 2.95 first and .63 5th.
Thanks for any help,
Tony (in England)

Re: F303 E303 w/ 165 AFRs
Looking at the cam numbers, it appears to be a pretty aggressive ramp on those cams for flat tappets, more stress on the valve train, wouldn't you think? Or am I way off base on this one?
Cheers,
Tony

Yep, what I was getting at for a flat tappet the XEs have an aggressive ramp.
Bumblebee,
I see you have an E303, do you think it would be worth putting an XE into your engine, over your roller?

Re: F303 E303 w/ 165 AFRs
They are aggressive ramps for a reason....POWER. They are newer technology. Stress on the valvetrain?? They may work faster but it's not nothing to be concerned about having faster valvetrain motion. I'm sure Comp Cams put a lot of research/developement into building them.
Scroll down to 5.0 hydraulic rollers.

Re: F303 E303 w/ 165 AFRs
I'm gonna stick with the e-303for this build. I have another 302 roller block I may play with a more aggressive cam later on. I am building on a budget right now (arent we all?) and got a deal on the 303.

Re: F303 E303 w/ 165 AFRs
Just for everybody's info, here are the spec's on the two cams.
E303 - 282/282 degrees adv., 220/220 degrees @ 0.050, .498/.498 lift, 110 LSA.
F303 - 288/288 degrees adv., 226/226 degrees @ 0.050, .512/.512 lift, 114 LSA.
I like the tighter lobe separation angle of the E303, but your compression ratio is begging for more duration which makes me lean to the F303. The nitrous shot might like the wider LSA of the F303 better, too.
In my opinion, keep the motor carbureted and use the F303.

Re: F303 E303 w/ 165 AFRs
Paulie,
Thanks for the advice.
I am leaning towards EFI though, because of the price of gas, and it does not seem to be getting any cheaper.
