CSR waterpumps...... im pizzed-

OK I gotta vent, My 351c is ready to go and it looks like a piece of jewelry -to me- now i gotta pull the CSR electric waterpump cause the thing is leaking at the base where it bolts up to the block, I just used silicone instead of the supplied o-rings. Before I get shotguned by everyone, The reason that I didn't use the o-rings is because the grooves cut in the waterpump legs to hold the o-rings werent deep enough even though the o-rings were VERY thin, too thin to even stay in place. What should I do ? Maybe custom cut some gaskets out of that gasket material ? Anyone got a CSR waterpump on their 351c or 302 ? what kinda luck have you had with it ? .............and to top it all off, F.E. sped by today and didn't even skid to a stop to use up all of my electrical tape and beer-

I've been running a CSR for going on four years now on my street strip car with no issues with the o-rings although one did "fray" a bit after five or six r-n-r cycles, I bought spares. I put a little bit of vaseline on them to keep them in place when bolting the pump to the block plate. I'd make sure that the CSR block plate is clean as well as the pump surfce and try again. Be sure you have even torque on the bolts as well and that the timming cover isn't warped or has excess left over gasket material where the block plate seats to it. The miiled receiver ring for the o-rings is supposed to be shallower than the ring itself so there is adequate crush to create the seal.

Most new OEM stuff is moving to o-rings and they really do work well.

I would have stopped but I had that Oldsmobile Cutlass Vert Engine in the back of my jeep... I'm so allergic to GM stuff that I HAD to get it out before I puked
Just came back form spending $268 Gawd Damn Dollars on a Torque Wrench at Sears! It ws teh ONLY one in the store and i needed one that was super accurate... It's brand new and digital....

Had to have it...

I got some o-rings if you want. I have a selection in a box if you want me to stop by.

Have Steve call me about his mom's toyota

Be sure to use sealer on the waterpump bolts...they pass through the water jacket.

Re: CSR waterpumps...... im pizzed-

I re- sealed everything and all is good, the 351c does not use the backing plate that the 302 uses, that was prolly the problem, the pump bolted up to the timing chain cover plate-

Re: CSR waterpumps...... im pizzed-

I called CSR before I bought the pump and they said not to use the backing plate when putting the pump on the 351c motors, they said that the backing plate is only for the 302-
