Swap over stuffs
I've got the 351C in the Falcon and waiting on the C4 and should hopefully be driving next week sometime. But a couple of questions:
1-I took the steering pump and bracket from the 289, modified the bracket slightly to fit it on the 351. The 289 has a smaller pulley so I was just going to get a smaller belt to go with it. This should be okay should it not? or am I missing something here?
2-I am on a bit of a budget at the moment and just want to get it road worthy so I can sell my current driver to help pay for this. I can't afford a new rad and nothing at the wreckers has the right dimensions. So I'm just going to leave the 289 rad in and make a custom bottom rad hose to go behind the fan for now. Will this rad be sufficient for a while or should I expect regular overheating issues?
Cheers
Kevin

Re: Swap over stuffs
As long as the belt pulleys line up there shouldn't be any problems there. Just make sure the pulleys aren't rubbing anywhere too.
As for the radiator, if it is just a mild engine, I would think the radiator would do just fine as long as the cores are not clogged.

Re: Swap over stuffs
Well the motor is a 351C, Edelbrock aluminum intake (came with the motor so not sure which model), 600cfm Edelbrock carb, Headman headers, 2.5inch x-pipe with Flowmasters, MSD coil and wires and will probably put in Pertronix as well. This will be my daily driver until the bad weather comes and I should be able to get a proper rad in a month or two. Still think the 289 rad is sufficient?
Also, the Edelbrock carb needs a rebuild so I installed the 4brl off the 289 onto the 351 until I'm done rebuilding the 6oocfm. I know less power will come as it isn't as large as the 600cfm and I know the 289 needs less fuel. But, the 289 comes with a 2brl stock so my theory is that the 4brl should put out enough fuel to match (or increase from) the stock 2brl for the 351C with 2V heads. Am I thinking right here? or am I way out to lunch on this theory?

Yes, I still think you will be fine. If in doubt, watch the temperature guage but I am betting you won't have any issues at all.

Re: Swap over stuffs
Unless you spend time idling in traffic you shouldn't have any problems with the radiator.

Re: Swap over stuffs
Awesome, thanks for your tips guys, mucho appreciado.
I wont spend much time in traffic, it's not too bad here and my work is only a 5 min drive from my house. Most of tbhe driving will be recreational.
One more: Will the alternators possibly be swapable? Pulleys look to be the same size but I haven't had a chance to size up the bracketry yet. If that is good I think I will try it out. The alt on the 351 has 5 connectors sticking out whereas the 289 one has only 4. Not sure where they would all go so I was hoping to use the 289 alt.

Re: Swap over stuffs
Let me know when you're ready for a radiator. I have a Summit (Northern) aluminum radiator I just pulled out of my '68 Falcon that I no longer need. Only had one season on it so it's in real good shape. Top is passenger side, bottom is drivers side. I think that's the same as the cleveland, isn't it?
These are around $170 from Summit so I'd say $100 plus freight, I guess. I'm just south of you, between Seattle & Tacoma.
Let me know if you're interested.

Re: Swap over stuffs
I would use the original alternator too. The wiring is all set up with the proper connectors and all. It doesn't sound like you are adding a trunck load of boom boxes or a full light bar so it should be fine.
