Cobra Valve Cover Baffle Modification

I have seen a post before and can't seem to find it. A Ford Muscle Member helped me with posting some excellent pictures on modified baffles so one can use roller rockers under them. Anyone that has this information would be very helpful.

Thanks

Greg

Re: Cobra Valve Cover Baffle Modification

Hello again

My original question was the poly locks where hitting the baffles under the valve covers. Any pictures of this modification would be helpful , I did the mod on the valve covers a while ago, but when I put them on it sounded like they where still hitting. I may have to glue two gaskets for each side together.

Re: Cobra Valve Cover Baffle Modification

Cover spacers, two gaskets (FEL-PRO is supposed to make one thick gasket) or tall COBRA covers are available.

Re: Cobra Valve Cover Baffle Modification

The two gasket set up will work along with the flat plate that is the baffle being bent to be closer to the top of the valve cover. There was a post that I can't locate on this forum that had step by step pictures how the plate was modified. I had it saved but may have hit the delete accidentally oops!

Thanks

Greg

Re: Cobra Valve Cover Baffle Modification

i drilled a couple of holes in the baffles[to clear the poly nuts] on a set of valve covers i used,it worked fine.but after adding a girdle i just doubled up on the gaskets

Re: Cobra Valve Cover Baffle Modification

Was this it? http://www.fordmuscle.com/forums/mus...ve-covers.html

I move the baffle plate up by removing the baffle plates, grinding down the baffle mounting points on the valve covers, retapped, and screwed them in. At this point I had enough clearance, but other applications might need another gasket.

Re: Cobra Valve Cover Baffle Modification

In the past I've removed pieces of the baffles and/or removed the entire baffles. I've used two and three gaskets glued together. Even made a gasket spacer out of 1/4" sheet plexiglass.

The spacers were a real PIA to make with a sabre saw.

Now I just buy the raised valve covers.

Yea, that's what eventually did too, but at the time I wanted to use my "vintage" Ford Motorsport valve covers.

Re: Cobra Valve Cover Baffle Modification

Found the Felpro gasket with the steel between the two pieces of cork. Wow the price was pretty steep $48.20 for the set. Part #1645. Now the baffles that where in the valve covers should have had the raised mounting areas ground down and tapped, but this was not done. I had a friend do the mods on the covers and I guess I wasn't clear. I am going to put some putty on the top of the rocker to see what the clearance issues may or may not be prior to bolting them on.
