Pushrod length

How do I know I have the right size?

I did the mistake and ordered a "stock length" pushrods for a non stock 302 (6.876) then I realized I can't do it, after I checked the preload on the lifters I found out I had the luck and I'm in the range CompCams recommends, with that 6.876 pushrods I have 0.020 of preload (they recommend 0.020 to 0.040).

Dose it mean I was lucky and I have the right length?
I checked the preload only on cyl number 1, do I have to check them all?

I do have a little ticking sound after a cold start, after 10 seconds the ticking sound go's away, feel's like the lifters are filling up with oil...

I can get closer to 0.030 by using a 6.95 pushrods and use 0.030 rocker shims that will give me a.034 of lifter preload. or I can get a custom length (6.886) to have 0.030

What should I do?

Thanks!

Re: Pushrod length

You are fine. They won't vary much from one cylinder to the next.

Re: Pushrod length

What about the ticking sound? Will it go away if I'll have higher preload?

The 20w50 oil you are using ,as posted in one of your previous threads,is likely the reason.
As stated by several others, oil is too heavy.

DRY STARTS! Not good for the cam.

Use a thinner oil with zddp. Your cam and will motor will love you for it.

Re: Pushrod length

With any valve train change, I though it was good practice to check the push rod length (valve geometry) by looking at the rocker tip and where it rides on the valve stem through a valve lift cycle (hopefully centered). Having the right pre-load won't answer that.
