Re: 460 oil pressure issue starting at 4600 RPMs

Didn't I say about 3 pages ago that your gauge is likely bad?

Re: 460 oil pressure issue starting at 4600 RPMs

I hope you are right but this problem was with the gauge to check the gauge that might be bad))

The electric one has been very consistant, I put the mechanical gauge on to verify it and the mechanical gauge was the one screwed up....

Aren't machines great at giving us something to do!

Re: 460 oil pressure issue starting at 4600 RPMs

I was explaining to my wife today the issue with the engine. I got to the part about this better pan that should cure the windage problem and she stopped me and said "why don't you just order one then"!

I love my wife!!

So I called Armondo and he's building me a pan and sending it out to be here by next weekend.

Is anyone interested in a very slightly used Milodon 10 quart marine pan with windage tray?

I'm going to change the pump, pickup and pan, they will all be for sale.

Re: 460 oil pressure issue starting at 4600 RPMs

UPDATE UPDATE!!

I took the boat out today with 7-8 quarts in the pan. Running 5000 rpms it held 60 lbs of oil pressure.

The windage in the pan must have been the issue. Milodon suggested I try with less oil.... seems they knew there was an issue with this pan.

I'm still trying to get them to take it back!

It was probably built for an engine that turned the other direction. Which direction does your engine turn - looking at it from the waterpump (front) end?

Aft flywheel and standard rotation, we specified all that when ordering.

It just plain doesn't work with 10 quarts of oil in it on this engine.

Re: 460 oil pressure issue starting at 4600 RPMs

i have the same pan and i am also having the same problems it started at about 6000 rpm 95 mph then i changed impellers and it happens at 4900 rpm 95 mph, so it seemed a speed issue with me, i lowered oil level to 8qts and it got alittle better. i am guessing that oil is climbing up the back of the pan at speed and airating. i know milidon makes a pan baffle that mounts in the rear of the pan to stop this for a chevy, but do they make something like this for a ford?

Re: 460 oil pressure issue starting at 4600 RPMs

When I talked to Armondo he said the oil was following the crank at high rpms and not droping into the pan fast enough. Milodon has a piss poor windage tray, no wiper, poor baffles and only one gate.

The new pan will be here shortly, I'll post pics of the differances and let you know how it works.

I didn't think I was the only one with this problem, and the fact that Milodon recommended I take oil OUT of the pan was a bad sign.
