Re: Tremec Bellhousing HELP????

It'll fit the block but what kind if car and what trasnmission?

That part# bell is for a 60's/70's toploader. If you're putting a toploader in a old mustang with a z-bar linkage, it'll work.

If you're putting a 5 speed in a Fox, it uses a linkage so there's no place to attach a cable, a different block plate, clutch fork, a bigger flywheel and you'll need an adaptor that corrects the bell depth and retainer diameter.

Re: Tremec Bellhousing HELP????

A guy has a tremec 3550 for sale with bellhousing (C5AA-6394-B) which was bought for a 351w and just wanted to know if it would fit my 93 302 roller block?

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Tremec Bellhousing HELP????

The bellhousing willl bolt to your block and the trans will bolt to that bellhousing but ......
The length of the input shaft is different between the Tremec and toploader. If the seller has shortened the input on the trans to compensate for the difference it will work.If not,the input and front bearing retainer on the Tremec will have to be shortened approx.5/8 inch or a spacer plate used between the bell and trans.

Re: Tremec Bellhousing HELP????

Does that mean that it will put the trans back 5/8"?

Will it still bolt up in the stock location with the spacer?

Re: Tremec Bellhousing HELP????

To install a Tremec in a Fox body, you need a bellhousing from an early Fox body (79-83) that used the SROD transmission. (single rail overdrive, 3-speed with 4th overdrive) Then, it will be a direct swap.

If you use a toploader bellhousing, the cable clutch won't work, AND you'll need that McLeod spacer plate that costs around $175.

Best bet is to use the SROD or buy a steel blowproof bell made for the Tremec and cable clutch.

Good Luck!
