Intake gasket on a 302
I have a 1972 302 in my 67 mustang. It has Trickflow Street Twisted Wedge heads. I run a Weiand tunnel ram. I am having a problem finding the correct gasket unless I am missing something. The front coolant chamber opening on the gasket is off by 1/4" so it will create a restriction on one side and leave the head exposed on the other. The other problem is there is a corner on the gasket pertruding into the coolant chamber opening with a hole in it that covers about 25% of the coolant chamber. Other than that the gasket is perfect. Summit and Trickflow both say that the felpro FPP-1250, the one described above, is correct. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Re: Intake gasket on a 302
I believe I used the same gasket. That # seems familiar. I had to cut/punch out that part of the gasket that covered 25% of the coolant chamber. My block is also a 72 and that is what I remember doing to get it to work.

Re: Intake gasket on a 302
Spali32,
Awesome looking engine. Bet it runs strong. Thank you for the feedback. I was going to do that but was a little hesitant based on the repercussions if it did not work. I cannot believe they do not make an appropriate gasket for that intake. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

Re: Intake gasket on a 302
It's a one fits all and you have to trim them on certain heads.

Re: Intake gasket on a 302
Retyler,
Thanks for the additional confirmation of the need to trim. I will go ahead with that and get it back on the road. I live in Pittsburgh, PA and the weather is finally getting nice. Shows are starting.....

Re: Intake gasket on a 302
Ditto here on my son's 347 with Trick flow heads and intake. Had to cut out that protrusion in the 1250 gasket into the water jacket. It will be fine once modified.

Re: Intake gasket on a 302
Yeah, she runs pretty strong and pulls hard up top. It's a fun car to drive with a 5 speed manual and 3:55's. My 2 kids ages(2.3 & 3.5 years old get a good giggle when I accelerate to 35-40mph... Of course I'm smiling ear to ear already.

Re: Intake gasket on a 302
That extra hole inside the opening is for 351's with an extra intake bolt. I don't bother to cut them since it won't hurt any thing. I do like to use a little silicon gasket sealer around the water ports.

Re: Intake gasket on a 302
You can also look at the Mr. Gasket intake gaskets. I have to use them on my setup between the Weiand and the adapter plates. IIRC, they do not have the extra bit o' gasket in the water ports. Softer than the Fel Pros too.

Re: Intake gasket on a 302
Spali 32,
My son is 2.3 as you say, and he gets quite the kick out of going for rides as well. Right about the same speed. He just laughs his butt off.
Thank you everyone for your contribution and input to my issue. Happy cruising to everyone, can't wait to get her back together.
