AFR 185 Pushrod Length

I know alot of guys on here are running AFR 185's, and I was wondering, if you're running them on a roller cam motor, what your approximate pushrod lengths are. I've been trying to set mine up tonight, and the best sweep I can get is using a 6.25 in pushrod. I feel like this is on the very short end of the spectrum, and was a little concerned. To be honest, I'm concerned about the whole thing. I'm having alot of trouble getting a decent sweep, and to get what I've got thus far, the rocker is sitting at the very very bottom of the stud.

I know this has been discussed numerous times, and I've read as much as I can about it. Unfortunately I still don't trust that this is an OK set up, and want to make sure I get it right the first time.

Here's two of the best pictures I could take. It was getting dark and my camera just couldn't focus in very well on the rocker.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. I just want to order up my pushrods and see how this thing runs!

Re: AFR 185 Pushrod Length

Running 165's on a 302 and mine came in at around 6.75. Really depends on deck height, gasket and rocker type / brand. I'd say those are a lil too short. Get a push rod gauge and get it close as possible then get'em ordered.

Re: AFR 185 Pushrod Length

I've been using a pushrod checker to establish my length. I've been through pretty much all possible sizes, and anything above 6.500 puts it way off the tip of the valve, so I was getting pretty worried because thats what I thought alot of guys were running. I think I'm pretty close with what I'm running now, although I agree its a bit on the short side. .100 longer puts in just a bit too far over the centerline on the exhaust side for my liking. I think I'll expand it .050 and see what I come up with. The sweep length looks OK to you guys?

Thanks for the help

Will
