gas mileage scams here!

I just noticed the ads in the blue band on the right side of my screen (due to a prior post about 'doubling your gas mileage'). What is up with this crap being allowed on this site????!!!! In my opinion, these lying crooks have no place on this forum! "Put a pill in your tank." "Run on water." "Pour in this miracle juice and get 100 MPG!" And so on and so on; BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. I would hope that all of us here are smart enough not to buy any of this junk so maybe they will go away. The first site I looked at was selling their juice ('it's not an additive' they say but guess what-you add it to your fuel tank!!!) for OVER TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS PER GALLON!!!! Oh well, at least it makes for entertaining reading. Their web sites are so full of fake science and mumbo-jumbo that you can't help but laugh out loud! Try this site: Fuel saving gadgets - a professional engineer's view: Ethos FR before you or your family gets bamboozled.

Re: gas mileage scams here!

I share your hatred for these obvious scams and too question why the site adminstrators would allow such blatant false advertising on this site. Is the need for profit outweighing common sense? Many months ago AARP (yea, I'm over 50!), ran an ad for the flashlights that you "shake" (looks more like spanking the monkey) to keep the light functional. The ad said it ha no batteries. It was $19.95. I bought one of those at a flea market for a buck and it does have batteries and "shaking" it had no bearing what so ever. Ironically AARP runs a column on advertising scams so I sent them an e-mail chastising them for such blatant false advertising and showing them where the batteries are located. That ad has never run again. I would hope that someone in power on this site would take the same steps and remove, then keep such false advertising off of an otherwise pretty cool site.

Later!
Mr. Ed

Re: gas mileage scams here!

I have only noticed the blue band once or twice for about a 1/2 second then totallf forgot about it....

It's not why I'm here so I never pay it any attention....

I looked at the double your mileage post but had NO FRIGGIN clue what the guy was talking about... I never seen the add only noticed the refertence to it

I got me a jerk-off flash light $15.00 came with a baby one too. It works great, if you have 2 minutes to shake it BEFORE you need the light...

Re: gas mileage scams here!

The real ones that don't have batteries actually do work by shaking it. This past semester, a group in my design class actually made a charger that worked by having it shook (by keeping it in a backpack) in which it was able to charge small stuff like mp3 players, cell phones, etc. In fact, they based the design on one of the flashlights that work that way.

If you don't like ads, use Firefox and use the plugin Adblock. You can right click the ads and block them, and you'll never see them again

This is a sensible solution that I have used for several years.
