17 X 11's will work w/5.75 back spacing

Well I finally got the pictures back on a stock 69 Cougar that were fitted with the rims/tires for my 70 cougar. The tires are 285/40/17 (11.2 inches wide) and the wheels are 17 X 11 Torque Thrust II's and have less than 100 miles on them. Can't wait to put them on and have some fun on the street. Apparently I could have the rim space for 6.75 backspacing if I wanted to max out the area. So it's nice to know I'm not max out yet.... Having over 450hp and 435ft lbs of torque should help with traction problems........on the street

Re: 17 X 11's will work w/5.75 back spacing

yeah, the car is definitely ready for a makeover.... I got a hell of a deal on them too. $750.00. Heck a 9.5" Torque Thrust rim is a special order 6-8 weeks to make and run $350 a piece. I got the 11" rims and the tires(everything under 100 miles) for that killer price. Can't wait to install them. The tires are about 1" taller than my current tires(2380rpms @ 60mph) and it should bring my 60mph rpms to about 2250rpms I believe in 5th gear with my 3.55 gearing.

I didnt know the cougars got more room that the mustangs. I've got 17X8 with 5.75" bs and 275/40/17 tire and ive got about 1/4 - 1/8 space at one point on the inside fender.

Re: 17 X 11's will work w/5.75 back spacing

The 67/68 Cougars/Mustangs was a different body style and more narrower than the 69/70 which is wider body style.
Usually the 69/70 mustangs and cougars share the same suspension mods. Except the cougars have always had the longer rear leaf springs than the mustangs. Something like 3-4" longer than the mustang rear leaf suspensions. But the front suspension is the same for the mustang and cougar (67/68) and (69/70).

Re: 17 X 11's will work w/5.75 back spacing

17 X 8's with 4.75 backspacing Torque Thrust II's. Tires will be 245/45/17 and rears will be 285/40/17. The 17 X 8's are pretty common and on the shelves. The 17 X 9.5's and up have to be special ordered/built and can take from 6-8 weeks to arrive.
