302 block identification questions

Hi all i have a 302 in my 69 falcon(not stock as stock it was a 6cyl car) i got under the engine next to the starter and came across these numbers

either
d1zm-6015-aa
2of2

or

c1zm-6015-aa
2of2

i cant quite tell the first letter but am pretty sure its a C

can anyone tell me what block this is? im sure its been built as its got some decent power(more than my old efi 5.0 mustang) and its got chrome oilpan and valve covers(i cant see the guy i purchased it from puting the chrome oil pan on if he didnt remove the engine and have it built, if you know what i mean)

Re: 302 block identification questions

The first two digits tell you the year. The letter tells the decade, the number tells the year in the decade.

C = 60's
D = 70's
E = 80's

etc...

C1 = 1961, but there were no 302's made then, so it must be a D1, or 1971 block.

Good Luck!

Re: 302 block identification questions

were there 289's in 61 because i am almost positive it is a C

i will try to post pictures i took with my cell while i was down there, in the pictures it looks as though its a D.

I found this on a website " The part number on this block is D1ZM which means 1971. Any Ford part number with a 'Z' or an 'X' indicates high performance."

and it could be a D

Re: 302 block identification questions

Actually, 289's didnt come out until 1963.
In 1961 there was a 221, then in 1962 there was the 260 and so on.
I bet its a 71 (D1).... sometimes castings are not so clear.

4th paragraph says 63, human error on first paragraph.

Re: 302 block identification questions

im sure it is a d1 as d1zm-6015-aa google search shows its a mexican manufactured block with supposedly higher nickel content and more meat but i hear people go both ways

what i dont understand is the

2OF2

as the date code from what ive read on date codes it would be the 2yr of 7* but the OF doesnt make sense to me

D1ZM (M=MEXICO) is a MEXICAN block.

20 F 2 is the Date Casting Code. 20th Day of JUN 1972

Re: 302 block identification questions

A Mexican block will generally say "Hencho en Mexico" in the lifter valley, and will have a round knob around an inch in diameter sticking out towards the front above where the oil filter mounts. It could be a Mexican part number.
