Removing side aluminum trim on a 63 Fairlane

Has anybody removed and replaced the side aluminum trim on this type of car? I noticed it appears that the end piece is held on by a stud with nut and as it goes down the car side it is attached by some other type of holding pieces. Do you remove the end piece and slide the aluminum piece, or ?
Thank You.

Re: Removing side aluminum trim on a 63 Fairlane

If you are speaking of the Fairlane 500, the ends of the trim on rear quarters, doors and fenders are held on with clips that have nuts on the back or in case of the door front, a very small bolt. The rest of the trim is held in place with a clip that is installed from the outside of the fender and has clips that are spread apart from the front into the square hole. To remove the trim on these clips, you gently pry it off which shouldn't be too difficult if they are as rusty as mine were.

Most of the clips are available but many are not but you can substitute with some of the ones that are available. A service manual is an invaluable tool in accomplishing this task.

But if you are talking about the plain Fairlane, I don't know about that since I did a 500.

Later!
