someone help please??????!!!!!!

i am fairly new to ford engines so bare with me.... i recently aquired a 1973 302 J code 4bbl (marine engine) that i am planning on putting in my 84 Ranger...i just have a few things confusing me...the id tag that is bolted under the ignition coil says that it was produced in the Cleveland plant (didnt know that they made 302 Clevelands)...So i did come research and the best i could come up with was maby its a boss 302?? Then..... This threw a bigger twist on it...ready....I pulled the valve covers and (gasp) 351 windsor heads??? Maby someone can un-confuse me

Re: someone help please??????!!!!!!

You need to post ALL the Casting #'s off it. Likely was a boat motor that got upgraded heads... Not unusual....

Don't Marine engines rotate the wrong way?

BigNasty

If the valve covers have 6 bolts you have a Windsor....the Boss used Cleveland heads on a Windsor block. How do you know they are 351 Windsor heads?????

Look at the intake ...if it has the firing order stamped on it and it is 15426378 it is a 289/302 block. If it is 13726548 it is a either a 351 or a 302 HO. The 302 and the 351w look very similar at first glance. The 351w has a slightly higher deck height than the 302.

Re: someone help please??????!!!!!!

the casts on the head say 351 WF (Windsor Foundry) which is why i say its a 351w head ...also the intake manifold says the words firing order but does not display the #'s....wierd....

also in response to whom said this was a common swap in boats....my uncle had owned the boat since 73 and he said he didnt do a single thing to it...this would lead me to believe it eas a factory option/mod....also i believe the boat motors go the wrong direction only if it is a twin engine option/application because the second prop would have to counter rotate the single engine option....i think

That's cool about the reverse rotation thing. But about him saying he alway's left them factory...
I alway's leave car's like they came from the factory... But I see modded car's all teh time...
Boat engines I've seen in the past are just as suseptible to be modded, in my opinion...

Re: someone help please??????!!!!!!

By the way....

The Clevelnd Plant made EVERY ford engine, not just 351 Clevelands... It's just that the Cleveland got it's name there from whenst it was born... I got me a couple 200 Clevelands adn a 302 Cleveland and even had a 352 Cleveland for that matter

Re: someone help please??????!!!!!!

I'm not agreeing on this engine plant thing.

There was the Cleveland Ohio plant, the Windsor Ontario plant, the Lima Ohio plant (BBFs) to name just a few.

Re: someone help please??????!!!!!!

So you're saying that ONE engine plant was dedicated to ONE engine???
That's stupid.... Waste an entire FOUNDRY on ONE mold? No friggin way.

Re: someone help please??????!!!!!!

No I'm not saying that one plant was dedicated to one engine. I'm just saying that there were more engine plants, and that the Cleveland plant didn't make ALL the Ford engines. eg The 429/460 was never made at Cleveland plant, but at the Lima plant. From what I can discover, all the six cylinder engines were made in Lima too.
