ARP or Jomar
I am upgrading the studs on my Edelbrock heads,, they have to much flex for a solid cammed 460,,Even running a stud girdle (Jomar) I still get too much adjustment change over time ,,, I am gettig a set of ARP pro studs and am wondering if I should stick with the Jomar polylocks or get the ARP's .. =ARP claims a flat tip fit that allows for tighter adjustment but I am looking for some real world opinion and not advertised sales promotion,, Any input appreciated,,,

Re: ARP or Jomar
Are the studs you have showing signs of starting to mushroom where they contact the rocker trunnion? Mine did. I'd call Jomar and see if what they sold you is already from ARP. Just a thought.

Re: ARP or Jomar
Thanks Nate , the studs that come with the heads are ARP , No mushrooming, unfortunately they are meant for a hydraulic cam and 0 lash,,, THey dont stand up to a solid cam valvetrain, I put the stud girdle on it in an attempt to slow down the need to adjust so often,,, It has helped extend the period between adjustments but I think the new studs will help,,,they are meant for solids and girdles,,, The ARP polys are supposed to be a totally flat adjuster ,,the Jomar ones that came with the girdle have a small depression on the end of the adjuster,., So I am mainly looking for some input on one VS the other,,,,, they are probably both just as good but any real world comparisons would add it the info already gathered

Re: ARP or Jomar
My experience with Jomar is that the girdle is a nice quality billet piece. The hardware(studs and polylocks) are cheap crap. I've had issues with the threads on the studs ands the polylocks wobble as you screw them on. They are probably from china. Don't know. Anyway, if you have an opportunity to upgrade the hardware, do it. ARP in quality stuff.

Re: ARP or Jomar
Yeah the girdle is very good, the poly locks are in serious question for sure,,,gregaust there is no real designation for studs (hydraulic vs solid ) but the stronger studs ie: ARP Pro series are much stronger and less apt to flex when using a soild type valvetrain,,, this keeps geometry closer and the valvetrain needs much less adjusting if all goes right,, Hydraulic setups (0 Lash) dont stress the valve gear near as much and can use the lower rated studs with little or no trouble,

Re: ARP or Jomar
Thanks , might look into this some more . I'm using a comp street solid roller and Jomar girle but not been able to use it yet since with the Australian Yellaterra rockers that use a .550 posi loc wont fit the rockers for the girdle. Slot in rocker is too narrow and jomar discontinued making .550 adjusters due to breakage issues. Their posilocs are .550 at base and step up to .600" . Could machine the adjusters up .550" a bit but not sure. Must get back onto it again.
