Holley Street Avenger Vs Truck Avenger on a Mustang?

I currently have a stock 302 in my 68 mustang with an autolite 2100 2bbl carburetor...

I won an ebay auction for an edelbrock performer rpm intake manifold and a holley truck avenger carburetor 770 for 140... I know the 770 is a large carburetor, but my main question is whats the difference between the street avenger and the truck avenger series? How will the offroad carb respond on the street? I will be doing heads and cam sometime this summer as well.

I believe the truck carb was designed for off-camber stuff like rock crawling and that type of thing. I would guess and say it would work okay but but as you pointed out it's pretty big for a small block like yours.

The truck carbs have side hung floats just like a lot of other Holleys. There is a vent tube connecting the bowls to keep fuel from spilling over on inclines. It would work fine on a car. It is a little big but with vacuum secondaries it is worth trying and see what you think since you own it. 2 barrel carbs are rated different so the primaries are about like a 500 cfm 2 barrel.

Should I even try it? 770 Cfm seem huge even if it is a vacuum secondary carb...

The guy that I bought it from had it on a 302 in a ford ranger..

on a stocker that will be pretty big, the good thing is the truck avengers have annular boosters so that will help give better low end and mid and it will idle a bit cleaner, I would try it and install a heavy secondary spring.

I guess Ill go ahead and try and well see what happens! I wonder are these carbs any good? They look similar to the barry grant road demon jr line of carburetors!
