Anyone know anything about A/C?

I want to put factory air back into my 86 Mustang GT.

I already replaced the evaporator core in the dash with a new one and sealed the case up. I did the heater core at the same time.

I have all of the stock factory brackets for the compressor and the stock mounts for the condenser.

I know what compressor and condenser I will purchase. I am having trouble sorting through the many lines, receivers, driers, accumulators, etc. that Advance auto and Autozone have on their sites.

The car had factory air at one point. It is now converted to carbureted, so I kind of wanted to go with the 1985 GT setup as it looks cleaner than the 86.

I also need to figure out how the electrical is wired up as far as how much power and amperage is needed to turn on the compressor, and such.

Any ideas?

Re: Anyone know anything about A/C?

Simple. Use the Original plug for the AC that came in the car originally...

The power for the compressor is 12V switched power, which run's THROUGH a LOW pressure cut out switch as well as a HIGH pressure cut out switch. All must be well in order to utilize your AC.

Get teh accumulator/Dryer for YOUR year model, get whatever compressor needed with teh head that fit your hoses. Sometimes you cannot choose a diffrent setup for it's look as the Head amting surfaces are diffrent at times.

Get a set of New O-rings, must be AC o-rings, get a small bottle of PAG oil to lubricate teh o-rings, adn DON"T loose the lid. PAG oil will suck in moisture...

Anything I missed?

Re: Anyone know anything about A/C?

Now we are getting somewhere! Thanks!

I think I get it now, there are three electrical connections, one on the high side, one on the low side, and one on the compressor. If the high and low are in spec, then they will allow the 12v+ to pass to the compressor to turn it on?

Part of the issue is that I don't have any existing electrical connectors from the old factory AC system. The previous owner did a number when he removed the system from the car. He pulled everything, including the dashboard controller!!

I managed to find an NOS dash controller when I replaced the dash itself.

Here is what I have now:

New evap and heater core
New dash controller, NOS for my year car
Blower fan works great, has 4 speeds, will blow you out of the car on high
Blend doors work sending air to bi level, heat, defrost, vent
Defrost works on back window.
Heat works well

I just don't have the wiring to "turn" on the A/C. I am not opposed at all to having a toggle switch on the lower dash to "turn on" the air, like most modern cars do. Hell, I can even draw a snowflake on it if it makes the wife happy.

The existing A/C wiring went to the engine computer for WOT cutoff and such. The switch that went on the accumulator came out with the computer harness. The computer is in a landfill somewhere right now, and the car is carbed.
